Tan or gray above with a row of dark brown blotches; belly whitish with brown spotting; scales smooth. Habits: Prairie king snakes are found in open or semi-open habitats such as pastureland and dry woodland but seem to spend much of their time in burrows. Distribution: Pinelands Of the Florida parishes and open well-drained areas west of the Mississippi Valley and Atchafalaya Basin. Comments: The prairie king snake is also known as the mole snake, and is non-venomous.
